miDiagnostics is developing an ultra-fast COVID-19 PCR test to check if it can deliver a reliable result in 15 minutes saving you both time and inconvenience.

Our COVID-19 test is not yet commercially available.
This study S65972 has been approved by the Research Ethics Committee UZ/KU Leuven.

We will use one additional deep nasal swab to compare this new diagnostic method with the current diagnostic practice.

We will also be investigating if an ultra-fast COVID-19 PCR test can be based on exhaled breath.

The study compares a pre-existing PCR test for determining COVID-19 virus infection and the miDiagnostics ultra-fast PCR test.


You must be 18 years old or older.
You are intending to travel by airplane.


The study compares a pre-existing PCR test for determining COVID-19 virus infection with the miDiagnostics ultra-fast PCR test.

This study will allow us to better understand how well our rapid PCR test works in a fast-paced test environment, such as the airport. We hope to make this rapid PCR test generally available in the future.

In a next stage of the study, instead of a nasal swab, a breath sample will be taken to investigate further the performance of a breath sample on our Ultra-fast PCR.

What is required?

There are 2 phases in this study. You will participate only in one of the 2 phases.
In the first phase, one additional deep nasal swab will be taken on top of your standard nasal swab collection.
In the second phase, a breath sample will be taken as well as the standard nasal swab collection.
There is no need to make any additional visits.


For your participation in the study you will receive a voucher worth €25.
